Getting Help

APDA Vermont is constantly striving to do what we can to offer resources and help to the Vermont Parkinson Community.  As well as the Support Groups throughout the state, we also have a Respite Care Program that makes free respite care available to those who need it.  We have recently partnered with Phyiscal Therapy Center of Vermont which offers a weekly swim therapy program. We also have a directory of carers and people with parkinson's who are willing to offer support and advice over the phone.

RESPITE CARE:

The respite care program is generously funded by a grant from the Lucy D. Nisbet Foundation.  The program is available to all Parkinson’s patients who are living at home in Vermont with an unpaid care partner. We offer a maximun of 36 vouchers a year (typically 3 a month).  Each voucher can be exchanged for four hours of respite care or adult day care, from any one of the fourteen agencies statewide that we have contracted with to provide this service.   For more information call 888-763-3366.

SWIM THERAPY:

THe chapter offers some financial assistance for the program and we are working to find transportation options for those who need it.  Currently the program is only available in Burlington, however we hope to work with other organizations to make similar programs available around the state.  If you need help or can offer a ride, please call us.  For more information on the program click here.

Everyone benefits from having somebody to talk to every now and then.  If you would like to be part of the support network please call Jean Baker at 888-763-3366 for a list of names and phone numbers, or to add your contact information to the directory.
