Vermont APDA Parkinson's 5K Power Run and Walk-A-Thon 2010:

This event was held on May 22, 2010 in Stowe Vermont on the Recreation Path and was a HUGE success! We raised almost $10,000 for Parkinson's research! Thanks to all for their generosity and participation. Looking forward to doing it again next year. A very special thanks goes to The Green Mountain Inn for their incredibly generous sponsorship. We couldn't have done it without them!

Peaks for Parkinson's, On the Move in the Mountains: This event is taking place on Vermont's 273 mile Long Trail this August. People living with PD, their caregivers and family members are encouraged to participate by joining 2007 Long Trail End-to-Ender, Jocelyn Hebert, and hiking a short distance with her along the trail as she treks the length of it. The Long Trail runs the length of Vermont, from Massachusetts to the Canadian border and follows the spine of the Green Mountains. This journey has three goals: 1) to increase awareness for Parkinson's. 2) to raise funds to help support people and families affected by Parkinson's. 3) to encourage the community to walk together and have fun. Bead Artist Barbara de Garmo

Barbara grew up in Rye, New York surrounded by the buzz of the city. In the early 1970's she found needlework to be very relaxing and a good outlet for her creativity. In 1975 she moved to Maine with her husband and basically stopped doing all needlework to pursue a teaching career in a small school of 48 children K-8. She retired from teaching and in 2002 when diagnosed with Parkinson's disease she found great solace in needlework; however, a few years later she was introduced to beading by her sister. Inspired by her sister and encouraged by her husband and son, she started beading. It has become very much a part of her life and now does both beading and needlework, as well as continuing to work full time. The 'Tulip' Series Earrings are designed by her son, Hunter and hand-crafted by Barbara de Garmo to raise Awareness for Parkinson's Disease.  Earrings can be purchased for $10.00 by contacting Jean Baker at 888-763-3366.
